War exposes the environment to significant harm and consequently people who live within it. The Truth Hounds’ report uncovers the environmental impacts of war in the region of Donetsk.

This region has historically been the heart of the industrial sector for Ukraine and before the conflict, it was one of the most polluted in the country. The conflict has made both positive and negative impacts on the environment. On the one hand, many industries have stopped their operations decreasing the content and risk of environmental hazards. On the other hand, maintenance of these facilities has also stopped leading to an increase in the risk of catastrophic failure.

The report provides data on environmental issues in some regions of eastern Ukraine. It also provides recommendations for required actions for militants, the Ukrainian government, NGOs and international community.
